These filters trap nearly everything: pollen, dust mites, bacteria, pet hair; basically all the nasty stuff you don’t want to be breathing in. Just make sure your system can handle it. HEPA filters are like putting extra toppings on your pizza; you have to make sure the oven (or your HVAC system) can handle the load.

Pro tip: If you’re just a regular ol’ homeowner without any major health concerns, a good quality pleated filter with a MERV rating between 8-12 is usually your ideal bet. It’ll catch most of the junk without choking your system.
